Late para-cyclist buried in hometown

TEHRAN, Sep. 23 (MNA) – After a formal ceremony held in Iran’s capital city of Tehran on Thursday the body of the late Iranian para-cyclist Bahman Golbarnezhad was conveyed to his hometown of Shiraz in south of Iran.

At a formal ceremony held in Yadegar Imam Stadium of Shiraz, the hometown of the late para-cyclist Bahman Golbarnezhad, the corpse of the deceased athlete was visited and bid farewell by the fellow citizens and officials of the city early in the morning on Friday. Then he was carried out to Darorrahmeh Cemetry of the city and buried there.

A formal ceremony was held in his honor in Tehran a day before on Thursday upon the arrival of the corpse from Brazil and Iran’s Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs Mahmoud Goudarzi was among the attendants. The body was air-shipped home after the ceremony in Tehran to Shiraz late on Thursday.

The 48 year old Iranian Para-cyclist Bahman Golbarnezhad, who passed away following a crash during the men's C4-5 road race at the Rio Paralympics on September 17, 2016, was a veteran of Iran-Saddam war of 1980-88 and father of a son. He had lost his left leg on a land mine in 1988.
